20 pet-friendly places in and around Kuala Lumpur
It's been almost a year since two cats arrived at my home. Sisters from the same litter, a year old last week. Thoroughly indoor cats and, for now, entirely uninterested in the idea of outdoor adventures. But the curiosity of where I might take them one day, if they ever did want to come along, is partly what prompted this list.
If you've spent any time looking for pet-friendly places in KL, you'll know that finding useful information takes longer than it should. And if you have a cat rather than a dog, the options seem to narrow even further.
In Malaysia, “pet-friendly” still tends to mean dog-friendly by default, a reflection of the country’s multi-religious and multi-ethnic makeup, where attitudes towards animals, particularly dogs, vary significantly across communities.
A quick note on geography: when people search for pet-friendly places in KL, they usually mean the greater Klang Valley, which spans Kuala Lumpur proper, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, Klang, and beyond. This list follows the same logic.
The places here are spread across KL and Selangor, ranging from lakeside parks to neighbourhood green spaces and a few indoor pet-friendly spots. Both areas are among the more accommodating parts of Malaysia for pet owners.
Before you go: keep your pet leashed and clean up after them wherever you go. Not because your dog isn't trustworthy, but because shared spaces work when everyone treats them as shared.
Mall pet zones in particular exist on fragile ground; they require local government approval and depend on visitors not abusing the privilege. The rules can change. The best way to keep these spaces open is to use them well.
If you're looking for places to visit with your dog, places to bring your cat on an outing, or simply curious about pet-friendly places to visit across the Klang Valley, here's what I've found…
The best places to go with your dog or cat around KL & Selangor
1. The Central Park, Desa ParkCity
If there's one place that made Kuala Lumpur feel like a pet-friendly city to visit, it's The Central Park at Desa ParkCity. On any given weekend, the lakeside promenade fills up with dogs of every size, cats peering out from carriers, and owners who look noticeably more relaxed than the rest of the city.
The walking paths are wide and well-maintained, the lake gives everything an openness that’s rare in KL, and the surrounding cafes accept that pets are simply part of the atmosphere.
What makes Desa ParkCity one of the best pet-friendly places to visit in Malaysia, though, isn't just the infrastructure. It's the culture. People here already know how to share space with animals. If you’re new to bringing your pet out around KL, this is probably where to start.
Good to know: Pet bazaars and weekend markets are held regularly around The Waterfront. Parking is paid.
2. Central Park, Bandar Utama
Central Park in Bandar Utama has remained one of the most dependable dog-friendly places to go in the Klang Valley for years. There's enough space to walk properly, enough shade to make a midday visit manageable, and none of the performative weekend energy you sometimes encounter elsewhere.
The park feels established in the best way: mature trees, ponds, proper walking paths, and the sense that it has settled naturally into the neighbourhood.
If you're looking for dog-friendly places to go in the Klang Valley that don't require any planning, Central Park BU is one of the most straightforward options around.
Good to know: Street parking nearby can be limited, but there is paid open-air parking at Dataran 1 Utama.
3. IWK Eco Park, Pantai Dalam
The IWK Eco Park is built atop an underground sewage treatment plant in Kampung Pasir, Lembah Pantai – and functions as a fully public sports and recreational park. The result is a surprisingly spacious green space in central KL, with a long jogging track, sports courts, a playground, and enough open ground for dogs and cats.
Good to know: Open daily from 7am to midnight. Pets are only allowed in the outdoor park and are not permitted inside the community hall or hall premises.
4. Taman Wawasan Recreational Park, Puchong
Taman Wawasan feels less curated than the newer township parks, and that's part of the appeal. The pond, jogging tracks, tree-lined paths and sports facilities make it the kind of place people visit for actual exercise.
For pet owners, that means there’s space to walk without constantly weaving through café crowds or tightly packed footpaths. The atmosphere feels more functional, more local, and noticeably livelier than some of the quieter parks on this list.
It’s one of the better places to visit with pets if you enjoy parks that feel active and lived in rather than overly polished.
Good to know: Early mornings and evenings tend to be the busiest times, especially with joggers and families using the park.
5. Urban Forest Park, USJ 3
USJ Urban Forest Park has jogging tracks, reflexology paths, and an amphitheatre – more amenities than most neighbourhood parks – set within a tree-lined loop that gives the whole place a forested feel for somewhere so close to the main Subang roads.
It's dog-friendly, though the crowd is mostly families with children rather than pet owners. A calm, well-socialised dog will have a fine time here.
Good to know: There are gazebos where you and your pet can rest after a walk.
6. Parc, Taman Subang Ria
Parc doesn't work quite like the other entries on this list. It's less a single defined park than a community hub, a network of connected green spaces and communal areas where pets have gradually become part of daily life.
The pet-friendliness here feels organic, built over years of the same residents using the same shared spaces. There are open areas suited to dogs, quieter corners where a cat in a carrier won't feel out of place, and enough greenery throughout the whole area.
For residents of Subang Jaya, or anyone curious about what a pet-integrated community space looks like in Malaysia, Parc Subang is one of the lovelier places in the Klang Valley to visit with your dog or cat.
Good to know: As a community space rather than a managed park, the atmosphere varies depending on the time of day. Mornings tend to be the most social and active.
7. Sunway South Quay Lake, Bandar Sunway
The Squarrel's Playground at Sunway South Quay Lake is a dedicated outdoor lakeside park with a small fenced playground where pets can socialise and move freely, a rarity in the Klang Valley, where most pet-friendly spaces still require leads at all times. The lakeside setting makes for a pleasant walk beyond the playground itself.
Good to know: Access is via the Sunway Square Mall car park at B3/B4, following signage to the outdoor zone.
8. Maya Park, Eco Ardence, Setia Alam
Maya Park sits beside Ardence Labs, a retail and dining hub in Shah Alam, and the combination works well. The lakeside setting is clean and open, the surrounding cafes spill onto alfresco terraces where pets are welcome, and the whole area feels designed for spending more time outside than originally planned.
It's one of the more underrated dog-friendly places to go in the Klang Valley, particularly for anyone coming from Subang Jaya, Shah Alam, or Klang.
Good to know: This park works best as a cafe-and-walk outing rather than a standalone visit. The alfresco dining around Ardence Labs is part of what makes it worth coming to.
9. Central Park, 16 Sierra, Puchong South
Central Park at 16 Sierra has green spaces, open lawns, and a fenced dog run with agility equipment, a small but considered detail that signals the park was designed with pet owners in mind rather than simply tolerating them.
The township setting gives it a clean, newer-development feel, and the open lawn space makes it one of the more relaxed places to visit with dogs in the Puchong area.
Good to know: Visit during off-peak hours for a more relaxed time.
10. Central Park, IOI Resort City, Putrajaya
The Central Park in IOI Resort City sits adjacent to Palm Garden Hotel, with waterfront amenities, an open lawn, jungle track, floral garden, skate park, and a dedicated pet-friendly zone with an obstacle course.
It opened in 2024 and is one of the more deliberately designed pet spaces in the southern Klang Valley. The obstacle course in particular gives it something the other parks on this list don't have.
Ducks are a regular presence around the lake, which is worth knowing if your dog is easily distracted.
Admission is complimentary.
Good to know: Pets are allowed off-leash within the pet zone, provided they are under constant supervision. Food and treats are strictly prohibited within the park area.
11. Cyberjaya Lake Park
The lake is the centrepiece here, and it earns that role. Scenic, open, and breezy, with water lilies floating on the surface and turtles visible near the edges, the whole place feels calm. You and your pet can cover a decent stretch without retracing the same path.
The crowd tends to be lighter here than in most KL parks. Mostly people walking, cycling, or having a picnic by the water. There's even a small cat sanctuary nearby, which is as wholesome as it sounds.
Good to know: A farmers market takes place every Sunday, where you can pick up food, vegetables, and fresh produce. Keep an eye out for monkeys around the park. Pet policies here have been inconsistently enforced though.
12. Central Park, twenty.five.7, Kota Kemuning
Twentyfive.7 has one of the more thoughtfully designed pet spaces in the Klang Valley. The fully fenced Furland Park gives dogs room to socialise and move freely, with obstacle equipment for the ones who like something to do.
Beyond the enclosure, a trail winds around the lake for on-leash walks and jogs, and the adjacent Buzz.ar commercial area has pet grooming and care services if you want to make a full morning of it.
It's one of the best places to visit with dogs if you want something more structured than a standard park walk, particularly for owners in Kota Kemuning, Klang, or the southern Klang Valley.
Good to know: Pets are not permitted inside the nearby Quayside Mall.
13. Gamuda Gardens Central Park, Rawang
“New next best after Desa ParkCity,” according to one Google Maps reviewer, which isn’t an unreasonable comparison. The park combines landscaped lakes, waterfalls, cycling paths, and large open lawns.
There's a small dedicated enclosure for dog play and exercise, which makes the whole place feel intentionally pet-friendly rather than just tolerant of pets.
It’s one of the best places to visit with pets if you’re coming from Rawang or the northern Klang Valley.
Good to know: Food trucks usually appear in the evenings. The Waterfront Village nearby has a pet-friendly cafe worth stopping at.
14. Lakepark @ Gravit8, Klang South
Gravit8's Lakepark feels oddly under-visited for how well-maintained it is. The lakeside paths are spacious and quiet in a way that comes naturally from being far enough from the city centre that the weekend crowds don't quite reach it.
For pet owners in Klang, Port Klang, or the southern parts of Shah Alam, this is one of the most accessible and overlooked pet-friendly places to visit nearby.
Good to know: Fewer cafe options nearby than the other parks on this list, so come fed or bring your own snacks. A good option if you prefer a quieter, no-frills outing.
15. Dragonfly Park, Eco Grandeur, Puncak Alam
Dragonfly Park is a private township park open to the public for walking, jogging, and cycling, and is dog-friendly. Named for its dragonfly shape when viewed from above, it features French-style gazebos and open green lawns, and the newer township surrounding it gives the whole area an almost European quality.
It sits close to Kuala Selangor, which makes it more secluded than most parks on this list – but that's also why it's almost never crowded. For dog owners who want an outing somewhere different, it's worth the extra distance.
Good to know: The park is largely open with limited shade, so an early morning visit is more comfortable. It's a popular spot for wedding and convocation photoshoots on weekends – worth being patient if you arrive and find a shoot in progress.
16. Bug's Paradise Farm, Puchong
Bug's Paradise Farm sits about 30 minutes from KL and operates in a completely different register from everything else on this list. It's an organic farm that doubles as a vegetarian restaurant, where you can sit with a bowl of farm-fresh steamboat.
Weekend farm tours let you walk through the nursery, handle worms, pluck vegetables, and interact with the farm animals.
The outdoor, open-air setting and unhurried pace make it the kind of outing that suits dog owners who want something other than a park walk – and the farm's whole ethos is built around people spending time outdoors with animals.
Good to know: Open Wednesdays to Sundays.
17. Megah Rise Mall (#MegahWalk), Taman Megah PJ
MegahWalk at Megah Rise features a 115-metre paved walkway designated as pet-friendly, with alfresco dining areas along the path, meaning you can walk your dog the full stretch, stop for a meal, and have a relaxed outing without navigating floor restrictions.
The walkway also has a built-in splash pad and pet-friendly amenities. Pet-friendly zones are limited to #MegahWalk and certain outlets on other floors.
Good to know: There is one designated pet-friendly lift on the ground floor beside Kheng Wah. Pets are not permitted in the rest of the mall. Follow the paw print stickers on the floor.
18. IPC Shopping Centre (The Pet Safari), Mutiara Damansara
IPC is the most practical mall entry on this list, in the best sense. The reason to come here with your pet is The Pet Safari on Level 2, a vast pet store that's closer to a theme park in design, where you and your pet can shop together in air-conditioned comfort, with pet-related products, grooming, vet consultations, and a pet cafe serving food suitable for cats and dogs.
It works well for stocking up, a grooming appointment, or simply letting your pet wander somewhere stimulating and climate-controlled. A different kind of dog-friendly place to visit than a park or a promenade, but a useful one.
Good to know: There is a designated pet-friendly lift to access Level 2. The rest of the mall operates standard rules.
19. Sunway Velocity Mall (V-Chill @ The Farm), Cheras
Sunway Velocity has one of the more thoughtfully designed pet zones among KL's malls. The pet-friendly zone is located at Level 5, Commune at V-Chill @ The Farm, an outdoor area open daily from 5pm to 9pm. The evening timing suits the climate well, and the whole area feels more relaxed than a midday park visit.
Good to know: Small breed pets must be in strollers, carriers, or bags. Entry is via the Peel Entrance on the ground floor, using dedicated lift lobby no. 15. Large breed dogs are not permitted. Paw print stickers on the floor mark the route.
20. Sunway 163, Mont Kiara
For pet owners in Mont Kiara and Hartamas, Sunway 163 is the most convenient and low-barrier option on this list. Pets are welcome throughout the common areas, with leashed pets allowed to walk freely on the ground floor and carriers or strollers required for upper levels.
The mall itself has the relaxed, community feel you'd expect from a neighbourhood retail park in a residential area.
Good to know: Individual outlets may have their own pet policies, so check before stepping into a specific shop.
