28 Instagram captions for Myanmar

Myanmar captions

Myanmar made it onto my country list, technically. An island in the Mergui Archipelago, briefly, via cruise ship. So no, I haven't trekked the Kalaw trail or stood among the temples of Bagan at sunrise for a caption.

Through a colleague's stories of home, I found myself curious about a country I'd only ever skirted at the edges of. Travel conditions change…

This is a collection of Myanmar captions for Instagram – for your photos from across the country, whether you need a caption for your Bagan trip, something to pair with that shot of thousands of temples at golden hour, or a Kalaw caption that doesn't sound like it was lifted off a teahouse coaster.

Pick your Myanmar caption like you pick your longyi: it should fit, and it probably shouldn't be borrowed without permission.

Myanmar is complicated. The photos, somehow, still need captions.

The best Myanmar captions for your Instagram posts

  • I didn't plan to be this interested in Myanmar. It just kind of Burm-ed its way in.

  • Burma-zing views all around

  • Myanmar-velous from start to finish

  • This country really shwe-pt me off my feet

  • Burmese food: love child of Indian, Chinese, and Thai cuisine

  • In a twist of automotive irony, the city drives on the right, but thanks to import habits, steering wheels appear on both sides of the car. Nobody seems bothered.

  • Chit happens

Bagan

  • I came, I saw, I got stupa-fied

  • I’m Bagan to feel at peace

  • I can’t shwe how much I love this view

  • It's crumbly, it's dusty, and arguably the most photogenic place in Asia. Basically ruin-core in real life.

  • I'm totally templed out. In the best way.

  • In Bagan, you either ride a horse cart or a slightly terrifying electric scooter.

Mandalay

  • I hope our flight isn't Mandalay-ed

  • Leaving Mandalay covered in dust. The sights were worth it. The dust was not.

  • The U Bein Bridge is famous for being long and made of teak. In practice, it's mostly about getting the sunset shot without falling into the lake.

  • The bridge has survived since 1850. Whether it survives another tourist season is another matter.

Shan State

  • Leg-rowing at Inle Lake is a serious oar-deal

  • Inle roughly translates to "Small Lake". It is not small enough to walk across.

  • Just Kalaw-ing my way through the mountains

  • Shan-tastic views in the Shan State

  • Kalaw: where the most exciting nightlife activity is choosing which tea to drink while watching the fog roll in

  • Three days of walking, one bowl of Shan noodles at the end. Worth every blister

Yangon

  • It’s impossible to Yangon after this

  • Yangon: a 2,000-year-old pagoda and a plastic household goods shop, both within walking distance. The contrast is free.

  • Shwedagon Pagoda: where covering things in gold leaf is a completely normal activity, and the marble floor is a hot yoga experience you didn't sign up for

Longyi

  • Longyi: it’s a skirt, it’s a belt, it’s a shopping bag, it’s a blanket, it’s a beach towel

  • More comfortable than your pants, more breathable than your shorts, and allows for tactical crouching when you really need to go to the toilet
