100 Instagram captions for Taiwan
Taiwan has a way of making you wish you had more time. More time to chase the mountain mist up to Alishan, more time to wander the lantern-lit alleyways of Jiufen, more time to gawk up at Taipei 101 like a proper tourist. I didn't have that time – not in the way most travellers do.
For a few contracts working on cruise ships, Taiwan kept showing up on my itinerary. Keelung and Kaohsiung became familiar in the way ports do – a few hours at a time, repeated enough to feel like almost-home. Hualien and Penghu I only glimpsed.
It wasn't a proper Taiwan trip. It was Taiwan in stolen hours. There's a whole Taiwan I've orbited but haven't yet landed in.
But whether you're passing through or doing Taiwan properly, you're going to want something to say about it. Something better than "good vibes only" under that Taipei 101 photo.
So here's a collection of Taiwan captions for Instagram: Taipei puns, travel quotes, cheeky one-liners, and a few wordplays for the spots in between. Because yes, I Taiwan-ted to stay longer – and your feed should reflect that energy if you want.

General Taiwan captions
I Taiwan-ted to stay longer
I'm totally Taiwan-ting this trip
Taiwan-derful in every way
Taiwan: comfort in a crowded, noisy, smelly, delicious place
Left my heart somewhere between the dumplings and the mountains
Found myself in Taiwan. Also found really good bubble tea.
Taiwan: where even the convenience stores are an experience
Bubble tea is mandatory, stinky tofu is a dare, and night markets are the real city centre
Taiwan tales told through tea, temples, and typhoons
Taiwan it that way
Taiwan nobody but you
In Taiwan, you are never more than 15 metres away from a 7-Eleven, a FamilyMart, or a HiLife
Always bring an umbrella. If it doesn't rain, use it to block the sun.
Typhoon season: nature’s way of ensuring I stay indoors, eat instant noodles, and call it a day off
Locals wear parkas in 15°C weather. I started the day in a jacket and ended it in a t-shirt.

101 reasons to love Taipei
101 reasons to look up in Taipei
Keelung
Keelung me softly
Keelung: where your umbrella goes to die
Arrived in Keelung. It was raining. Left Keelung. It was raining. Can't explain why I want to go back.
If Taipei is the stressed-out businessman, Keelung is the rain-soaked uncle who knows the best seafood spot in town
Keelung doesn't need good weather. It needs good appetite.
The Miaokou Night Market doesn't care that it's raining. Neither do I.
Keelung: arrive hungry, leave soaked, return anyway
The most stylish thing in Keelung is a sturdy, wind-resistant umbrella. I did not have one.
New Taipei
Close to Taipei, closer to the mountains. New Taipei wins.
Jiufen out of ten
Jiu knew this place would be special
Jiu can’t not have fun here
This place is Jiufen-tastically beautiful (terrible, therefore perfect)
Jiufen looks so much like the Spirited Away bathhouse that I half-expected to see No-Face
The hardest thing in Jiufen is waiting in line for taro balls
Jiufen literally means “nine portions”. I’m just respecting the culture.
Rainy: romantic. Sunny: beautiful. Typhoon: guess I live here now.
Shifen trains run directly through the market street like it's completely normal
Mountains, hot springs, a coastline… New Taipei really said “yes” to everything
Taichung
The birthplace of bubble tea, so the entire city runs on sugar, pearls, and a general refusal to hurry
Came for culture, stayed for bubble tea
The question in Taichung isn't whether to get bubble tea. It's how many.
Taichung got me seeing in colour again. Rainbow Village did that.
Fengjia Night Market: Taiwan’s biggest night market, in a country that takes night markets very seriously
Chiayi
The scenery here is really tree-mendous
If you don't eat turkey rice in Chiayi, did you even go?
Turkey rice in Chiayi: small bowl, unreasonable impact
Ali-shan't stop exploring
Ali-shan’t this feel a little too peaceful?
Mist you already, Alishan
Alishan: where waking up at 3am feels less like torture and more like a spiritual requirement to watch the sun rise over a sea of clouds
Chiayi: underrated by everyone who hasn't been, unforgettable by everyone who has
Kaohsiung
Kao-sh, this city is beautiful
Kaoh-me back, Kaohsiung
Kaohsiung: 40% massive port, 30% cosy art galleries, 20% neon night market, 10% adorable black sand beach
So sunny you can probably tan just walking to the 7-Eleven
Pier-2 used to store container cargo. Now it exclusively pours over coffee and curates art installations
Formosa Boulevard Station: the world's largest glass art installation – because public transport needed to be fancy
Feels like I'm in a cathedral. Turns out I'm just waiting for the Red Line.
Hualien
A gorge-ous day to be alive
Gorge yourself on the views
Taro-fic views
Hualien rush hour: waiting for two scooters to pass at a stoplight
Hualien beaches are better for looking at than playing in
Hualien: where everyone looks like they've just come back from a hike or are about to go find the best scallion pancake
Penghu
Peng-who gave this island such charm?
Peng-hooray for getting off the main island
Penghu: where the wind is strong, the sun is intense, and the cactus ice cream stains my feed
Penghu's cactus ice cream: painful plant, delicious scoop, total tourist trap I fell for willingly
Penghu: sun, wind, and cactus dessert before noon
Taoyuan
Too-yuan, too-furious
This city is peach-y (Taoyuan means "peach garden")
Taoyuan: where you land, get decent dumplings, and immediately ask how to get to Taipei
Taoyuan: the city that has been patiently waiting for me to stop rushing to Taipei
Not just an airport. But also, mostly, an airport.
Food & drink
My love language is street food
Misty hikes and milk tea highs
Oolong time no see, Taiwan
Tea-riffic times in Taiwan
Tofu-tally obsessed with Taiwan
This tea is boba-licious
Dumpling my feelings into this bowl
I pork-ed all my money into this bowl
Braised and confused by how good this is
Stinky tofu: the only food that breaks the rule "if it smells bad, don't eat it”
Fried chicken: pounded thinner than my patience in a morning MRT crowd, but tasting 100% better
Soy milk: hot or cold, sweet or salty. Basically warm cereal milk for adults.
Bubble tea: not just a drink, it’s a culture

Taiwanese ginger cubes: turn hot water into liquid comfort
Nature & hiking
Taiwan has more high mountains than any island in the world. My legs know this.
Taiwan has 268 mountains over 3,000 metres. I did some stairs. It counts.
In Taiwan, even the hike has a tea house halfway up
Taiwan hiking rule #1: the harder the trail, the better the convenience store at the bottom feels
Taiwan hiking difficulty levels: easy, moderate, hard, and "why are those grandparents overtaking me"
The trail said two hours. It took me three. A man in slippers finished before me.
In Taiwan, the children and the elderly strolled up the hills while I climbed
Taiwan taught me that Type 2 fun is still fun
Nobody warned me that "a short hike" in Taiwan involves 1,400 steps and a grandmother with better stamina than me
The (Huangdidian) summit was worth it. I will not be discussing what happened on the way up.
